Hi Everyone!

Today we have Jah9’s newest single, “Love Has Found I”. 9 released it yesterday, in celebration of Empress Menen Asfaw’s Earthstrong (birthday). In the song, Jah9 croons about finally finding her one true love. A man embodying the likeness of H.I.M. Haile Selassie I. You get to hear a different range to her voice in this song, you can feel the soulfulness in each utterance. Just as if you got your dream man too. It brings a kind of happiness.

The photos for the accompanying visuals are by Nickii Kane with styling by Wade. While the track was produced by Clive Hunt. Take a listen to “Love Has Found I” by Jah9, and tell me what you think in the comments below.

“Love has found I… Finally….

Taking it slow but not letting go.”

Here we see the usual style of our favourite wordsmith, sweet wordplay riding the riddim immaculately.

Speak Life

Though born and raised in Jamaica, Damian Marley is truly an international reggae star. His albums have sold all around the world and he has toured on multiple continents. In the past few years he has collaborated with household names from North America such as Jay-Z, Nas, Skrillex and Bruno Mars, along with local artists.

Damian Marley Speak Life 1

His style combines themes and sounds from all around the world and that same multi-cultural approach is evident on the video from his latest Grammy-award wining album, “Stony Hill.”

Damian Marley Speak Life

Entitled, “Speak life” the video depicts Damian Marley sprouting words of wisdom and encouragement such as:

“Speak life
Live a humble and meek life
Ordinary day of the week life
Try to search and seek life”

This is set to the background of mesmerizing guitar licks and rhythmic African percussion. This is not the only area of the video where the continent’s influence is present as the video was shot in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, during his tour of Africa. It features several beautiful shots of ordinary Ethiopians as they go about their daily activities with Amharic (official language of Ethopia) subtitles playing throughout the video.

Damian Marley Speak Life 2

Shot by Jerry Henry, the creator of the documentary “Africa, I promise” the video is also a display of the reverence that continues to exist between the Marley family and Ethopia. Yet another example of how our heritage has been exported by our cultural flag-bearers.

Below is a video of Damian’s tour of Africa.

Hi Everyone!

The weeks have been moving along soooo fast, it was just Monday and now it’s almost the end of Wednesday. I hope all is well, hope you haven’t missed me too much, I have a lot of backed up articles, so look out for that!

I have something new for you, nothing nuh nice like new music, right? Today I’ll be sharing “Crazy Over You” by Ras-I featuring Runkus and Royal Blu (Faves). The instrumental for this song gives me a neo-soul feel with a touch of jazz. I love it. The lyrics follows suit with Ras-I’s voice coming in nice and sultry, caressing my heart… and eardrums. Crazy Over You describes a love story known to many people; beautiful, sturdy like a Nokia 3310, crazy love. Ras-I, Runkus, and Royal Blu take turns singing their love fable. Each having a different vibe but fitting perfectly on the track. Take a listen to Crazy Over You!

My love goes crazy over you…”

Hi Everyone!

Today we have “Potential” by Jeeby Lyricist, the first single from his forthcoming EP. The track was mastered by Damitjon and produced by Shawn Smith. It has a Neo Soul feel to it, Jeeby poetically recites the lyrics over a hip-hop rhythm. He starts off with the line, “Have you ever been afraid of your potential?” and follows up urging you to chase your dreams. The verses are filled with motivation, pushing you to put your goals first, and ensure you protect yourself, mentally and emotionally.

In telling his own story, Jeeby provides his lyrics as a guide for us to do the same, and follow our dreams.

The artwork was done by Abigail Titus, @Tinysunthing on Instagram. Take a listen to “Potential” by Jeeby Lyricist, tell me what you think in the comments below.

Protoje’s “Bout Noon” Ain’t No Play Thing

This lovely February morning, we have a new single from Protoje, tilted “Bout Noon”. 2018 has started off with a continuation of the highly appreciated 2017 trend, persistent amazing music releases. I really think he should have dropped this song before Valentine’s Day ’cause it’s for you and your lover. It is to set the mood to lock weh for the night, and day too… ’til about noon.

The single was produced by Winta James and Lamont ‘Monty’ Savory; it was written by Protoje while on a flight heading home. He’s singing about how much he missed his lady, and some of the reasons why he loves her. I also have to take a moment to big up my artiste’s word play! As well as that sweet guitar riff that can be heard under the chorus, it is addictive. The song makes me want to hug up my bae and rock away, just like the visuals in the lyric video.

Bout Noon is just a taste of the Reggae star’s upcoming fourth studio album, and we’re eagerly awaiting what he will be bringing to the sound system this time around. The single art was created by Yannick Reid, and the music video was created by Ikem Smith. Watch the video for “Bout Noon” by Protoje below.

“Me catch a prophecy, fi kotch you pon top of me,

A you property,

So settle pon it properly”

Hi Everyone!

This song isn’t new but the music video is, the single was released last year, April. Here is the official music video for “Skin Toned” by Royal Blu and Runkus. These young artistes refreshingly bring up racism, and how hard it is for black people to survive in this world.

The song was produced by JLL, and the music video was directed by Tim Foresta and Thandi Sebe, and produced by Daniel Krause.

“We all come from God…”

Hi Everyone!

Today we have a new single by Sevana, it is “Justice”, produced by The DrumKeys. On the track, she speaks about the blatant disregard of the effects the earth faces because of us, humans. I first got a taste of the song at Sevana’s benefit concert, A Shirt For A Show, held late year. I really liked the bridge, don’t get distracted by her beautiful voice, the message is a strong one. The lovely cover art is by Richard Nattoo (@DjSinista1). Take a listen to Justice by Sevana.

will outlive you and me.”
